ReflectedLight.Org is a one man operation, so your assistance in any area is really appreciated.

The Need. According to www.iAdoptU.org,

At any given time there are over 6,000 children in foster care in San Diego County. *1

If my math is correct, that is equivalent to 1 in every 121 children (17 and under) according the the 2000 Census of San Diego County *2 To put that into perspective, that’s 1 child in foster care for every 4 classrooms (with an estimated class size of 30 kids).

  • It is common knowledge that every person needs some form of stability in their life. How much more so for a child or young adult to have this while they are growing up, and going through changes! Being part of a family is a necessity for emotional health.
  • I see pictures of children on adoption sites, and they seem bland, with no emotion. Mug shots seldom, if ever, do them justice. Prospective parents aren’t moved to action.
  • Foster care parents are a temporary arrangement. A major, yet important step above that, is adoption of the child. Family is what they yearn to have.

My Hope. It is my wish that all the children in San Diego County that are in foster care be provided with natural, candid, and beautiful portraits of themselves.

  • Each of them receive at least one photographic print of the photo session.
  • Creating portraiture in environments that they are comfortable in.
  • Provide a way for those who are willing to donate money to this project, to see tangible results of their donation.

The Ultimate Goal. Images that show who they are as individuals. Images that show these children as themselves. Images that move prospective parents to adopt the child(ren) featured in these photographs. That is, in the end, the purpose of why I want to do this.  Everyone deserves to be part of a family that loves them.
